Separate regulatory headlines from operating reality. Before changing priorities, identify whether a proposed rule would materially affect your current product, customers or roadmap—and on what timeline.
Founders have limited attention. Treating every policy debate as urgent can distract the team, while ignoring a clearly relevant rule can create strategic risk. A concrete impact-and-timeline test helps allocate attention proportionately.
For each major regulatory issue, write down: What specifically could change for us, when could it happen, and what decision must we make now? If those answers are unclear, monitor it rather than letting it consume the roadmap.
