Viral reach is not the same as durable traction. Evaluate new users by intent, activation, retention, and fit—not sign-up volume alone—before treating a social spike as evidence of product-market fit.
Low-intent users can inflate headline metrics while consuming support and distracting the team. Distinguishing quality from quantity helps founders invest in acquisition that compounds rather than attention that quickly disappears.
Review your latest traffic spike by source: which cohort reached the product’s core value, returned, or converted? Then decide whether to improve onboarding for that cohort or stop investing in a channel that attracts mostly looky-loos.
