Leadership is not about personally ensuring every employee succeeds. Build clear expectations, useful support, and an environment where people have a strong chance to succeed—then let them own their performance.
Trying to guarantee everyone’s success can make the founder a bottleneck and blur accountability. Creating repeatable conditions for success supports stronger ownership and a team that can perform without constant founder intervention.
For one struggling team member, ask: “Have I provided clear outcomes, decision rights, timely feedback, and the resources to succeed—and what must they now own?”
